Indian Oil Announces Higher LPG Production, Prioritizes For Homes, Hospitals & Schools Amid Crisis

Rising geopolitical tensions affecting global fuel supply have prompted authorities in India to take steps to ensure adequate availability of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) for essential use.

Oil companies have announced measures to increase LPG production and prioritise supply for domestic consumers and critical sectors such as hospitals and educational institutions.

The move aims to protect households and vital services from potential shortages caused by disruptions in international energy markets.

LPG Production Being Increased To Secure Domestic Supply

According to a statement shared by Indian Oil Corporation Limited on social media, the government and oil marketing companies are working together to boost LPG production.

The focus is to make sure that households across the country continue to receive uninterrupted LPG supply. Domestic cooking gas remains a crucial energy source for millions of families in India, especially in rural and urban middle-class households.

Officials said ensuring domestic supply is the top priority during the current period of global uncertainty in fuel markets.

Priority For Hospitals And Educational Institutions

Along with household supply, essential non-domestic sectors will also receive priority access to LPG. These sectors include hospitals, educational institutions and other critical services that depend on LPG for daily operations.

Authorities said the decision was taken to ensure that important public services are not affected even if supply becomes tight due to global factors.

By protecting these sectors, the government hopes to maintain smooth functioning of healthcare and educational facilities across the country.

Committee Formed To Review Other LPG Requests

For non-domestic sectors that fall outside the priority category, a special committee has been set up to evaluate requests for LPG supply.

The committee includes senior executives from three major oil marketing companies in India:

K Sailendra - Indian Oil Corporation Limited
T V Pandiyan - Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited
Dhruv Kapil - Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited

This panel will review requests and decide which sectors can receive LPG supply based on necessity and availability.

How Organisations Can Request LPG Supply

Institutions or sectors that consider their LPG requirement essential can submit a request to the committee via email. The requests will be reviewed individually.
