SIR Deadline Extended in UP, TN, MP and Others; West Bengal Sees No Shift

The Election Commission of India has changed the Special Intensive Revision schedule for electoral rolls in six regions, including Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Madhya Pradesh. The revised calendar also covers Gujarat, Chhattisgarh and Andaman and Nicobar Islands, affecting key enrolment timelines before the final rolls are issued in 2026.

ECI officials said these changes aim to give administrators more time to update records and address claims and objections. The move affects ongoing revision work at booth level across the concerned States and Union Territory, where staff are assisting voters at help desks and through door-to-door visits.

The Commission’s updated programme includes new deadlines for revised enumeration and draft publication in each affected area. Tamil Nadu and Gujarat now share the same dates, while Uttar Pradesh has the latest window. Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Andaman and Nicobar follow a similar pattern, with revised enumeration in mid-December and publication later that month.

While these six regions see altered dates, the Commission has kept earlier plans for several other States and Union Territories. The enumeration period for Goa, Gujarat, Lakshadweep, Rajasthan and West Bengal is scheduled to finish on 11 December 2025. Draft electoral rolls for these places are due to be published on 16 December 2025.

The poll body also recalled that Kerala’s timetable had already been shifted in a previous order. "The schedule for Kerala was revised earlier and the Enumeration Period for the State of Kerala would end by 18.12.2025 and the draft Electoral Roll will be published on 23.12.2025," EC said. This places Kerala’s publication date in line with Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Andaman and Nicobar.

Encouraging new voters to register, the Commission highlighted tools available during the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. EC added, "In order to ensure that no eligible elector is left behind, new electors are being encouraged to fill up the Form 6 along with the Declaration and submit them to the BLOs (booth-level officers) or fill the Form and Declaration online using the ECINet App or website to get their names included in the final electoral rolls, which will be published in February, 2026." These final rolls will guide electoral processes in the coming year.
