Delhi–Leh SpiceJet Flight With 150 On Board Makes Emergency Return to Delhi After Technical Snag

A SpiceJet flight on the Delhi-Leh route declared a full emergency on 25 February and returned to Delhi after a reported engine issue. Airport officials said the Boeing 737, operating as SG-121/DEL-IXL, turned back shortly after departure with around 150 passengers on board and landed safely.

Airport sources said the full emergency call was made at around 6.30 am, once the crew reported a technical problem. The aircraft touched down in Delhi at about 6.45 am. Officials aware of the situation said the captain decided to return to base "following an Engine Number 2 failure".

SpiceJet flight emergency and technical checks underway

According to officials, emergency services were put on alert until the SpiceJet flight completed its landing roll. There were no reports of injuries, and passengers were later moved out of the aircraft in a normal manner. Engineers are expected to carry out detailed inspections before the Boeing 737 is cleared for further service.

A SpiceJet spokesperson confirmed that the Delhi to Leh service on 24 February had to be cut short due to a technical snag. "The aircraft landed safely in Delhi, and all passengers were disembarked normally. There was no fire warning in the cockpit," the spokesperson said. More updates from the airline and regulators are awaited.

SpiceJet flight emergency and IndiGo diversion details

The incident came soon after another disruption involving IndiGo, when weather conditions affected operations in the Northeast. On Sunday, an IndiGo flight from Ahmedabad, carrying 144 passengers, was diverted to Imphal. Officials said a severe dust storm made visibility at Dibrugarh airport "dangerously low", forcing a change of destination.

Flight 6E-6457 was operating from Ahmedabad to Dibrugarh via Guwahati, according to an airport official quoted by PTI. It left Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati at 10.20 am. "While it was scheduled to touch down at Dibrugarh airport at 11.15 am, the arrival coincided with a heavy dust storm that significantly hampered operations. Conditions on the ground fell well below the minimum safety thresholds required for a safe landing, and the visibility was dangerously low," he said.
