Nitish Kumar was sworn in as Bihar's Chief Minister for the tenth time at Patna's Gandhi Maidan, with Narendra Modi and other leaders present; the new cabinet includes 26 ministers, with the BJP holding the most positions, and three women, including Shreyasi Singh, Rama Nishad, and Leshi Singh.

Women Take the Spotlight in the New Cabinet

Along with the Chief Minister, 26 ministers took the oath. The BJP secured 14 positions in the cabinet as it emerged as the single largest party in the Assembly polls. Eight representatives from the JD(U) were included, while the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) gained two ministerial berths. The Hindustani Awam Morcha and the Rashtriya Lok Morcha each found a place with one minister.

One of the most notable features of the formation was the inclusion of three women: Shreyasi Singh and Rama Nishad from the BJP, and Leshi Singh from the JD(U). Their induction followed a strong showing by women voters and highlighted the impact of women-focused initiatives championed by the Nitish Kumar government.

Shreyasi Singh: Champion Shooter Turned Rising Politician

Shreyasi Singh stands out as a rare combination of sporting excellence and political drive. Born on August 29, 1991, in Delhi, she hails from a family with a prominent political lineage. Her mother, Putul Kumari, served as an MP, while her father, Digvijay Singh, was a Union Minister. She lost her father in June 2010 at the age of 19, yet his values shaped her commitment to public service.

Before entering politics, Singh became one of India's most successful rifle shooters. She became the first person from Bihar to win a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games when she triumphed in the women's double trap category at the 2018 Games in Gold Coast. She also won a silver medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games and earned a bronze at the Asian Games.

Singh joined the BJP on October 4, 2020, just ahead of the state elections. At 29, she contested and won from the Jamui constituency, defeating RJD's Vijay Prakash by more than 41,000 votes. She strengthened her mandate in 2025 by retaining Jamui with a margin of 54,498 votes.

Rama Nishad: A Strong Voice for the EBC Community

Rama Nishad has become one of Bihar's most recognisable female leaders. Married to former MP Ajay Nishad, she represents the Aurai constituency and has built her political identity around the extremely backward class community.

Her electoral success has been remarkable. Nishad secured the highest number of votes in Bihar in previous elections and held the record for the biggest margin within the eleven Assembly constituencies of her district in the 2020 polls. Ahead of the 2025 elections, her name was widely discussed in political circles as a possible choice for Deputy Chief Minister due to her influence among EBC voters.

In this year's contest, Nishad defeated Vikassheel Insaan Party candidate Bhogendra Sahni by 57,206 votes in Muzaffarpur district. She crossed the one lakh vote mark, securing a decisive victory that paved her way into the cabinet.

Leshi Singh: A Veteran Politician with Deep Local Roots

Leshi Singh brings long standing political experience to the new cabinet. The JD(U) leader represents Dhamdaha in Purnia district and has been an MLA six times. At 51, she is considered one of the most seasoned figures in the Assembly.

Singh won the Dhamdaha seat once again in 2025, defeating RJD's Santosh Kumar by 55,159 votes. She has represented the constituency continuously since 2010, except for a brief loss in 2005 to RJD's Dilip Kumar Yadav. Before joining the JD(U), she won the seat in 2000 as a Samata Party candidate.

Her political journey has also been marked by personal struggle. After the murder of her husband Butan Singh in 2000, she worked to turn Dhamdaha into a stronghold, shaping her reputation as a resilient leader.

The formation of the new NDA government came nearly a week after the alliance secured a solid mandate, winning 202 seats in the 243 member Assembly. The BJP led with 89 seats, followed by JD(U) with 85, LJP(RV) with 19, HAM with 5, and RLM with 4.
