AMU Teacher Shooting Case: CCTV Footage And Police Probe Update

Fresh CCTV footage from Aligarh Muslim University shows a masked attacker firing several shots at teacher Rao Danish Ali, even after Ali fell to the ground, as police continue to search for the two unidentified assailants.

The video from a camera near the AMU library canteen records about six gunshots. One attacker is seen kneeling close to Ali and repeatedly aiming at the head before running from the scene with another person.

Police said the shooting happened around 9 pm near the library canteen, inside the Civil Lines police station area of the AMU campus. The spot is close to the Kennedy Auditorium, a busy stretch for students and staff.

On Wednesday night, Rao Danish Ali was walking near the Kennedy Auditorium with two colleagues. Two masked attackers approached, spoke briefly, and then fired at Ali from very close range, leaving the colleagues unharmed but shocked.

Earlier, India Today TV reported that one of the shooters said, "Danish, now you will know me." Investigators are treating this statement as a crucial lead while they examine motives, including any possible personal dispute.

Police officials said Ali followed a daily habit of visiting the AMU canteen for tea after 9 pm. On the night of the attack, Ali collapsed immediately after the bullets hit and was quickly taken to Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College Hospital.

Doctors at the hospital declared Ali dead on arrival. Senior Superintendent of Police Neeraj Kumar reached the university with a team, secured the crime scene and issued an alert across the district to trace the attackers.

SP Mayank Pathak said several police teams are examining CCTV from the campus and nearby roads and speaking to Ali’s family. Pathak stated that all possible angles, including personal enmity, are being checked, though the attackers remain absconding two days after the killing.
