The reader must know that the Indian Air Force (IAF) will fly a special "Sindoor" formation, marking the first Republic Day parade after Operation Sindoor, India's precision strikes on terror camps following the Pahalgam attack in Jammu and Kashmir last year.

'Sindoor' Formation to Lead Air Force Flypast

The Indian Air Force will showcase the "Sindoor" formation during the flypast at the Republic Day Parade. This formation will include fighter aircraft that took part in Operation Sindoor. It will feature two Rafale jets, two Su-30 aircraft, two MiG-29s, and one Jaguar fighter.

Officials said the flypast will also include other advanced aircraft and helicopters such as the P-8I maritime patrol aircraft, Apache attack helicopters, Light Combat Helicopter (LCH), Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH), Mi-17 helicopters, and transport aircraft like the C-130 and C-295. The aerial display will be presented in a battle array format, highlighting the Air Force's operational readiness.

Republic Day Parade: Phased BattleArray

For the first time, the annual Republic day parade will utilize a phased battle array format. This new concept allows Army (Indian Army) platforms and personnel to be displayed in the same order as they would be used during an actual battle situation while moving along Kartavya Path.

A spokesperson described the phased battle arrangement. He stated that as part of the phased battle arrangement, reconnaissance will now precede logistics followed by combat forces wearing battle gear and the intent is to make the parade as exciting and realistic as possible and show the public how the military conducts ground operations.

Republic Day Parade: Bhairav Light Commando Battalion's Debut

The newly raised Bhairav light commando battalion will make its Republic Day Parade debut this year. The battalion was raised around October last year and has already participated in the Army Day Parade held in Jaipur.

Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi earlier said the Bhairav battalion was created to bridge the gap between infantry units and special forces, strengthening the Army's rapid-response capabilities.

Advanced Defence Systems on Display

The parade will showcase a wide range of indigenous and advanced defence systems. These include BrahMos missiles, the Akash missile system, the Medium Range Surface-to-Air Missile (MRSAM), Advanced Towed Artillery Gun System (ATAGS), Dhanush artillery gun, Shaktiban vehicles, and several unmanned systems and drones.

Mechanised columns will feature T-90 tanks, Arjun main battle tanks, BMP-II infantry combat vehicles, robotic mules, unmanned ground vehicles, all-terrain vehicles, and light strike vehicles. Robotic mules, inducted into special forces in 2024, have already appeared in earlier Army Day and Republic Day events.

No 'VVIP' Enclosures This Year

In a notable change, the defence ministry has decided not to use 'VVIP' or similar labels for enclosures at the parade venue. Instead, enclosures have been named after Indian rivers such as Ganga, Yamuna, Brahmaputra, Narmada, Godavari, Kaveri, and Sindhu.

Similarly, enclosures for the Beating Retreat Ceremony on January 29 will be named after Indian musical instruments like sitar, tabla, veena, shehnai, and santoor.

Theme, Guests, and Cultural Displays

The theme of this year's Republic Day Parade is the sesquicentenary of "Vande Mataram." Backdrops along Kartavya Path will feature paintings and floral artworks inspired by the national song and its composer, Bankim Chandra Chatterjee.

The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and the President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, will attend the parade as chief guests. The event will also feature a veterans' tableau by the Indian Air Force, highlighting the contributions of veterans to the nation.

A total of 18 marching contingents and 13 bands will participate, along with 30 tableaux from states, Union Territories, ministries, and services. The parade will begin with performances by 100 cultural artists playing Indian martial musical instruments, setting the tone for a display that blends tradition, strength, and modern military capability.
