SIR FAQs: Know Which Forms To Submit Before SIR Drive To Avoid Voter Roll Errors In Hyderabad

As Telangana gears up for Phase III of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), districts including Hyderabad are set to undergo a major verification of electoral rolls. Electors are being encouraged to update or correct their details in advance to avoid disruptions during the exercise. Choosing the correct form is essential, as each serves a specific purpose in maintaining accurate voter records.

Types of Forms You Must Fill and When

To make the process easier, here is a clear breakdown of the three most important forms issued by the Election Commission of India (ECI):

Form 6 - For New Voter Registration

• Who should fill it: Citizens aged 18 years or above who are not registered as voters in any other constituency in India.
• Purpose: Inclusion of a new name in the electoral roll.
• Important note: Duplicate registration is not permitted.

Form 8 - For Address Change or Detail Correction

• Who should fill it: Existing voters who have shifted residence or noticed errors in their voter details.
• Purpose: Updating information such as address, spelling mistakes, age or other personal details.
• Benefit: Helps prevent verification issues during enumeration.

Form 7 - For Deletion of a Name

• Who should fill it: Family members or authorities reporting a voter's death or identifying duplicate entries.
• Purpose: Removal of ineligible names from the electoral roll to keep records accurate.

All three forms can be submitted online through the official ECI website. Offline options are also available by contacting Booth Level Officers (BLOs). Those unfamiliar with digital services can seek help at Mee-Seva centres.

Why Completing These Forms Before SIR Is Crucial

Frequent relocation within the city often leaves voter ID cards with outdated addresses. Such mismatches may create obstacles during the enumeration phase of the SIR.

As seen in the earlier phases, BLOs conduct door-to-door visits to distribute forms. If residents are not found at their registered address, officials have little choice but to mark them absent.

The enumeration form is provided only to individuals whose names already appear on the electoral list on the date the SIR is announced in Hyderabad and other Telangana districts. Residents who are still not enrolled should submit Form 6 promptly to avoid missing out.

Family Mapping Exercise Begins Across Telangana

Booth Level Officers have initiated family mapping, officially known as progeny mapping, throughout the state.

If a voter's name exists in the 2002 electoral roll, the linking process is straightforward. Those whose names are absent are being asked to connect themselves through relatives whose entries appear in the older records.

According to Election Commission guidelines, voters may establish this link using the names of their father, mother, maternal grandfather, maternal grandmother, paternal grandfather or paternal grandmother.

Successful mapping eliminates the need for additional documentation. However, voters who remain unlinked will receive notices later in the SIR process and must submit proof from a prescribed list.
