New Rail Route Planned To Link Temple Town Mellacheruvu With Hyderabad, Boost Pilgrim Access
A major transport proposal linking Mellacheruvu town in Suryapet district directly with Hyderabad has been set in motion, irrigation and civil supplies minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy said on Sunday. The minister indicated that the plan is being pushed as both industry and pilgrim movement in the region have grown steadily in recent years.

Connectivity plan announced after temple visit
Uttam Kumar Reddy spoke to the media after offering prayers at the Sri Ishta Kameswari Sametha Swayambhu Shambulingeshwara Swamy temple in Mellacheruvu during Maha Shivaratri celebrations. He said the shrine has begun attracting devotees from across Telangana, making better transport and public facilities necessary.
He explained that authorities are in touch with different departments to take forward the railway proposal. The project includes a double railway track between Mellacheruvu and Hyderabad along with passenger train services so that residents, workers and pilgrims can travel without difficulty.
Focus on industry and mobility
The minister said he had previously taken up the matter with the Union government and continued to follow it closely. According to him, rail access would help industries operating in the Suryapet belt while also reducing travel strain on people commuting to the capital.
He added that Mellacheruvu's growth over the years required stronger infrastructure support and maintained that improved connectivity would boost investment, trade movement and employment opportunities.
Development claims and water supply project
Speaking about his association with the area, Uttam Kumar Reddy referred to development works undertaken during his public life and described the water supply project as a major achievement. "Bringing Krishna river water for irrigation and drinking purposes to Mellacheruvu and surrounding villages remains one of my most satisfying achievements," he said.
Funds for festival and pilgrim facilities
The minister also said the state government headed by chief minister A Revanth Reddy had sanctioned ₹1 crore for Maha Shivaratri arrangements and temple development this year. The allocation, he noted, would be used to create basic amenities and manage the increasing number of visitors coming to the temple annually.
