Hyderabad To Bengaluru Trains To Get Faster As Railways Completes Track Doubling, 130 kmph Soon
Passengers travelling from Hyderabad to Bengaluru are set to benefit from faster and more reliable rail services as South Western Railway (SWR) completes a major capacity and speed upgrade on the busy inter-state route.

With key infrastructure works now finished and final speed enhancements nearing completion, journeys originating from Hyderabad are expected to become shorter starting next month.
Makajipalli-Dharmavaram section strengthens outbound route
A crucial 30-kilometre stretch between Makajipalli and Dharmavaram in southern Andhra Pradesh has now been doubled, removing one of the bottlenecks on trains heading from Hyderabad towards Karnataka. The Commissioner of Railway Safety has authorised operations on the newly laid track at a maximum speed of 110 kmph.
During trial runs, trains were operated at 121 kmph and monitoring systems confirmed stable performance without abnormal oscillations. Completion of this work also marks the end of the Penukonda-Dharmavaram doubling project.
Apart from laying the second line, the railway constructed 66 minor bridges, 15 road underpasses and a foot overbridge, while the station yard was expanded to include five lines. These additions will allow smoother crossings and reduce waiting time for trains leaving the Hyderabad side of the corridor.
130 kmph target on Yelahanka-Dharmavaram corridor
Railway engineers are also upgrading the Yelahanka-Dharmavaram section to support operations up to 130 kmph. The 161-kilometre corridor is expected to achieve this capability by March.
Once implemented, faster running will particularly benefit long-distance and premium services departing from Hyderabad, including the Yeshwantpur-Kacheguda Vande Bharat Express. Higher permissible speeds combined with double tracking are expected to significantly cut overall travel time.
Shorter travel time for Hyderabad passengers
The doubling removes delays caused by trains waiting for clearance at crossing points, a frequent issue on single-line sections. With two tracks available, trains leaving Hyderabad towards Bengaluru can maintain steadier speeds and improved punctuality.
Passengers are therefore likely to notice quicker end-to-end journeys and more dependable schedules, especially during weekends and holiday rush when the route witnesses heavy demand from students, IT professionals and business travellers.
Boost to inter-state connectivity
The upgrade strengthens the rail link between Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, supporting daily movement of workers, traders and tourists. Railway officials expect the modernised corridor to encourage more travellers to choose trains over long road journeys.
Once the 130 kmph operations begin, the Hyderabad-Bengaluru rail route will stand among the faster conventional passenger corridors in southern India, marking a significant step toward modernising inter-city rail travel in the region.
