Prem Slams Kanakapura Srinivas: 'Inhumane' to Attack Jailed Actor Darshan & Insult Late Puneeth Rajkumar

In a major development within the Sandalwood industry, acclaimed director Prem has formally filed a complaint with the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) and the police against veteran producer Kanakapura Srinivas. The move follows a series of explosive and derogatory remarks made by Srinivas during a recent press meet for the film Cottonpete.

The Conflict

The controversy erupted when Kanakapura Srinivas launched a verbal tirade against several industry heavyweights, including late icon Puneeth Rajkumar, actor Darshan Thugudeepa, Dhruva Sarja, and Director Prem. Srinivas claimed he was responsible for making Puneeth a hero and alleged that the late actor had "cheated" him. He further targeted Darshan regarding past financial dealings and questioned Prem's professional integrity in a highly singular and derogatory manner.

Prem's Response: "Inhumane and Low-Level"

Speaking to the media after filing his complaint with KFCC President Jayamala, an incensed Prem condemned the producer's behavior as "inhumane." He specifically took issue with the comments made about those who cannot defend themselves:

On Puneeth Rajkumar: Prem noted that it is cowardly and disrespectful to speak ill of Puneeth Rajkumar now that he is no longer with us. "These words should have been said to his face when he was present," Prem stated.

On Darshan: Addressing the remarks about Darshan, who is currently incarcerated, Prem emphasized that attacking someone during their hardest personal trials is "barbaric."

A Direct Challenge: Responding to Srinivas's personal attacks and questions regarding his "manhood," Prem issued a bold invitation: "The entire state knows where my house and office are in Chandra Layout. Come there, Guru."

Prem also debunked Srinivas's claims of financial fraud. He clarified that while he received an advance of ₹9 lakh in 2004, the project was delayed by the producer for a year, causing Prem a personal loss of nearly ₹20 lakh in office expenses and lost opportunities. He further noted that he had already returned ₹5 lakh through mediator Sa. Ra. Govindu out of goodwill, a gesture Srinivas reportedly acknowledged at the time.

The Sandalwood community and fan groups have reacted with outrage, particularly over the "insult" to Puneeth Rajkumar's legacy. As the videos of Srinivas's outburst continue to go viral, all eyes are now on the Film Chamber to see what disciplinary actions will be taken to address this breach of industry decorum.
