Jana Nayagan Release: Vijay's Film Unlikely To Hit Screens In Feb; Makers To Eye New Date

The fans of Vijay will be disappointed to know that the chances of his latest movie Jana Nayagan is diminishing as the movie continues to face censor-related troubles.

As the makers decided to withdraw their writ petition its writ petition seeking a direction to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to grant a UA certificate to Jana Nayagan, it was speculated that the movie might be released on February 20.

Industry insiders had also stated that Jana Nayagan might hit the screens on February 26 or March first week, even if it fails to hit the screens on February 20. Well, it now looks like the film is unlikely to see the light in the coming weeks.

The CBFC has not formed a revising committee yet and the process might begin next week. It means Jana Nayagan is unlikely to hit the screens on February 20.

The makers are currently pushing for a February 26 or 27 release, which will depend on multiple factors - including the formation of the revising committee, the examining committee watching the film, and the certificate being issued within a tight timeframe.

If these conditions are not met, Vijay's team and the production house are considering an April 30 theatrical release. It all depends on the performance of the actor's political outfit TVK.

If the TVK fails to make big impact, then the movie might be out on June 22 to coincide with his birthday celebration, industry insiders say.

In addition to this, the makers have to renegotiate the OTT and satellite deals after the movie failed to release on January 9.

Billed as Vijay's last movie before he becomes full-time neta, the release of Jana Nayagan was postponed at the last minute. In fact, the advance booking of tickets had started in Tamil Nadu and outside the country. The delay forced the makers to refund the money to the fans.

Also, the uncertainty around the release has left the KVN Productions in a big loss.
