Tamil Nadu Govt Plans Early Exams for Classes 1 to 9 Due To Asembly Elections

The Tamil Nadu School Education Department is advancing final examinations for Classes 1 to 9, as Assembly elections are scheduled for 23 April. Officials say school buildings will serve as polling stations, so the exams are likely to start in early April and finish by 17 April.

According to department sources, tests are expected in three separate phases. This staggered plan aims to allow smooth handover of classrooms and halls to the Election Commission. Staff deployment and security arrangements are also being considered while fixing the revised school exam timetable.

The academic calendar had earlier fixed end-of-year examinations from 10 April to 24 April. With polling preparation needing several days, authorities decided that completing assessments before voting would cause fewer disruptions. Students from Classes 1 to 9 will now face a tighter exam window than initially planned.

A fresh timetable has been drafted and sent to the School Education Secretary for approval. Officials expect a formal notification soon, listing exact dates and phase-wise schedules for all classes. Schools and families are waiting for confirmation so that study plans can be adjusted quickly.

Education Department representatives state that the change is mainly to keep election and academic work separate. By finishing Tamil Nadu school exams earlier, administrators hope to avoid clashes between exam duties and poll arrangements, while ensuring students complete their yearly assessments on time.
