Vijay Breaks Silence On Divorce With Sangeetha: 'People Around Me Waited...'

In a rare and emotionally charged public address, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay has finally addressed the swirling controversy surrounding his personal life, linking the recent divorce filing by his estranged wife, Sangeetha, to a coordinated attempt by political rivals to derail his burgeoning career in public service.

"You Cannot Separate Me From the People"
Addressing a massive gathering on Wednesday, the actor-turned-politician broke his long-standing silence regarding his matrimonial dispute. Vijay characterized the timing of the legal proceedings-arriving just weeks before the state elections-as a calculated move by "those around him" to tarnish his reputation.

"The people around me waited for many years and tried to defame me 30 days before the elections," Vijay stated. "No matter how many trials and pains you put me through, you can't separate me from the people."

The remarks come in the wake of a divorce petition filed by Sangeetha in the Chengalpattu District Family Court on February 24, 2026. Seeking dissolution under the Special Marriage Act, the petition alleges "emotional and mental cruelty" and "constructive desertion." Sangeetha claims the marriage has "irretrievably broken down" after two years of living separately.

In her petition, Sangeetha alleges that she discovered in April 2021 that Vijay was involved in an adulterous relationship with an actress. She claims that even after he initially promised to end the relationship, it allegedly continued between September 2021 and February 2022, leading to emotional and mental cruelty, public humiliation (through social‑media posts), and what she describes as "constructive desertion."

She also states that she has been living separately from Vijay for about two years and that the marriage has "irretrievably broken down," existing only on paper.

Using his divorce issue, Vijay has been targeted by his political rivals.

Vijay Attacks DMK

While addressing his personal tribulations, Vijay pivoted to a blistering critique of the DMK-led government. Labeling the ruling front a "cash-box alliance," he alleged the coalition was built on "looted funds" rather than shared ideology.

Vijay took particular aim at Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, describing the current administration as a "caretaker government" lacking real authority. He claimed that if the DMK had "full power," they would have blocked his events.

In a surprising ideological maneuver, Vijay also claimed that the "real Congress" is now aligned with the TVK, accusing the DMK of "buying over" the official state unit with crores of rupees.

"For others, this may just be an election," Vijay concluded, "but for those in the TVK, it is an emotion." As the legal battle in Chengalpattu unfolds, the political battle for Tamil Nadu appears to be entering its most personal and volatile phase yet.
