Chennai Power Cut Today: Maintenance to Affect Kundrathur, Mathur & Surrounding Areas

CHENNAI - Residents in several pockets of the city and its suburbs should prepare for a temporary disruption in electricity services this weekend. The Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO) has announced a scheduled power shutdown on Saturday, February 21, 2026, to facilitate essential maintenance work.

The outage is expected to last for five hours, starting from 09:00 am to 02:00 pm. According to officials, the suspension is necessary to carry out routine upkeep of transformers and overhead lines to ensure a stable power supply during the upcoming summer months.

Key Areas Affected

The shutdown will primarily impact four major zones: Kundrathur, Mathur, Thirumazhisai, and Iyyappanthangal.

Mathur (Extensive Outage)
The Mathur region will see the most widespread suspension, affecting residential colonies, colleges, and industrial pockets alike. Notable areas include:

• Periya Mathur, Chinna Mathur, and Aavin Quarters.
• CPCL Nagar, MCG Avenue, Chinna Samy Nagar, and Kamaraj Salai.
• Manjambakkam, Assisi Nagar, and Agarsen College Road.
• West Garden, Kathakuzhi, Thidir Nagar, and Bhai Nagar.
• Sangeetha Nagar, Sakthi Amman Nagar, Thirupathi Nagar, and Jayaraj Nagar.

Kundrathur
In the Kundrathur sector, the following neighborhoods will face power cuts:

Thirumazhisai
Rural and semi-urban localities under the Thirumazhisai substation will be offline, including:

• Annaikattucheri, Kavalcheri, and Sorancheri.
• Chithkadu, Thirumanam, Amuthurmedu, Vayalanallur, and Thirukoilpathu.

Iyyappanthangal
The disruption in Iyyappanthangal is specifically targeted at major residential complexes:

TANGEDCO has stated that if the maintenance work is completed ahead of schedule, power may be restored before 02:00 pm. However, residents are advised to complete high-energy tasks-such as pumping water or charging electronic devices-prior to the 9:00 am cutoff.
