HAL To Whitefield Travel Hit: Marathahalli Bridge Closed For 3 Days In Bengaluru

Bengaluru traffic police will shut the busy Marathahalli bridge for three days for metro construction, affecting movement between HAL, Varthur and Whitefield along Varthur Main Road and the Outer Ring Road from 27 March to 29 March 2026.

All vehicles travelling from HAL towards Varthur or Whitefield via Varthur Main Road and Marathahalli bridge will not be allowed during this period, and the same restriction applies in the reverse direction from Varthur or Whitefield towards HAL on the same stretch.

Traffic diversions and alternative routes near Marathahalli bridge

For traffic starting from HAL and heading to Varthur or Whitefield, vehicles should use Varthur Main Road, then turn left at Doddanekundi Junction, move through Kartik Nagar Junction to the Outer Ring Road, take a left, then a U-turn below the Doddanekundi flyover and continue via Alpine Eco Road, Anjaneya Junction, Kundalahalli Main Road and Graphite Road.

Motorists travelling from Varthur or Whitefield towards HAL are advised to follow Varthur Main Road, take a right at Kundalahalli Junction, continue on Kundalahalli Main Road to Anjaneya Junction, turn left onto Alpine Eco Road towards the Outer Ring Road, then turn right at Kartik Nagar Junction, follow Doddanekundi Main Road to Doddanekundi Junction, and finally turn right again onto Varthur Main Road towards HAL.

The restrictions are linked to Bengaluru Metro Phase-2A, known as the Blue Line, which runs 19.75 km from Central Silk Board to K R Puram along the Outer Ring Road, includes 13 elevated stations and crosses Varthur Road at Marathahalli bridge, with completion targeted for December 2026.

Explaining the move, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Sahil Bagla stated, "In view of Metro work by BMRCL in the limits of HAL Airport Traffic police station, on Varthur Main Road at Marathahalli Bridge, all types of vehicular movement is prohibited for 03 days starting from 27.03.2026 in order to ensure smooth flow of traffic."

Additional options during Marathahalli bridge closure

There is another diversion for vehicles from Varthur or Whitefield heading towards HAL, using Varthur Main Road until Vibgyor Junction, then turning left onto Vibgyor School Road, moving to Balagere Main Road, taking a left to Kadubeesanahalli Junction, turning left again onto the Outer Ring Road up to Marathahalli bridge junction, and then turning left onto Varthur Main Road towards HAL.

The three-day closure of Marathahalli bridge will affect commuters travelling between major technology hubs and residential zones, so police advise road users to follow the announced diversions, allow extra time for travel between HAL, Varthur and Whitefield from 27 March to 29 March 2026, and watch for further updates from Bengaluru traffic police.
