Bengaluru Namma Metro Yellow Line Adds Extra Train, Introduces Mobile QR Code Travel Passes
Bengaluru's Namma Metro Yellow Line is expanding its services to ease congestion for daily commuters. From 15 January, an additional train will start running on the RV Road-Bommasandra route from 6 a.m., bringing the total number of trains on the corridor to seven. The move is expected to reduce rush-hour crowding and shorten waiting times between trains.

Previously, passengers on the RV Road-Bommasandra stretch had to wait about 13 minutes for a train on weekdays. With the seventh train in operation, the interval will now drop to 10 minutes from Monday to Saturday. On Sundays, services that earlier ran every 15 minutes will now operate every 14 minutes, though the first and last train timings remain unchanged, BMRCL clarified.

The new train is a driverless rake that arrived in Bengaluru in December 2025. After completing technical checks and trial runs, it has now entered commercial service, increasing the corridor's passenger capacity and helping alleviate congestion.
Namma Metro Introduces Mobile QR Code-Based Unlimited Passes
On the other news, a major convenience for commuters, Namma Metro will also launch mobile QR code-based unlimited travel passes from 15 January. The passes, available for one, three, and five days, allow unlimited travel on the metro during the validity period.
Unlike earlier systems, the new passes eliminate the need for a ₹50 security deposit. Commuters can simply scan the QR code on their mobile pass at the entry gates, streamlining travel and reducing waiting time at ticket counters.
The unlimited travel passes are priced at:
₹250 for one day
₹550 for three days
₹850 for five days
Officials say the new system is designed to make metro travel faster, smoother, and more user-friendly, particularly for regular commuters.
About the Yellow Line
The Namma Metro Yellow Line, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 10 August 2025, is a fully elevated corridor spanning 19.15 km. It connects Rashtreeya Vidyalaya (RV) Road with Bommasandra, serving 16 stations across southern Bengaluru neighborhoods. The addition of the seventh train and introduction of QR code passes are expected to significantly enhance commuter experience on this busy corridor.
