Namma Metro Fare Hike 2026 to Raise Bengaluru Metro Tickets by 5% From February

Bengaluru commuters may soon face higher Namma Metro fares as the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) considers another revision. The proposed hike, estimated at around 5%, is expected to take effect from February, impacting passengers across all operational routes.

The move follows recommendations from the Fare Fixation Committee (FFC), which advises a 5% increase in ticket charges annually. BMRCL officials are currently reviewing the revised fare slabs before final approval. If implemented, daily travel costs for regular metro users will rise slightly, though many riders are already reeling from last year's steep 71% increase.

Under Section 33 of the Metro Railways (Operation and Maintenance) Act, 2002, BMRCL has the authority to revise fares based on FFC guidance. The 2025 hike drew significant public criticism, making Bengaluru's metro one of the costliest in India, and sparked debate about affordability for daily commuters.

Commuters have expressed concern that frequent fare revisions place additional strain on household budgets. BMRCL, however, cites rising operational and maintenance costs as a justification for periodic fare adjustments, pointing to the legal framework that supports annual revisions recommended by the FFC.

Officials say the next fare proposal is still under review, with a final announcement expected soon. Any approved increase will affect all ticket categories, including single-journey, smart card, and pass holders, reinforcing the need for commuters to stay updated on revised charges.
