If You Are Asking Grok on Elon Musk’s X to Create Undressing Images of Women, Beware of What Comes Next
Elon Musk owned social media platform X has announced new safeguards to stop its artificial intelligence chatbot Grok from digitally undressing images of real people.

The move follows widespread global outrage over the tool being used to create sexualised images of women and children through simple text prompts.
X announces new image editing restrictions
X confirmed that it has introduced technological controls to prevent Grok from editing images of real individuals wearing revealing clothing such as bikinis or underwear. The restrictions apply across all user categories, including paid subscribers, and will be enforced in regions where such content is considered illegal.
"We have implemented technological measures to prevent the Grok account from allowing the editing of images of real people in revealing clothing such as bikinis," X's safety team said in a statement.
"This restriction applies to all users, including paid subscribers."
The platform also said it would geoblock the ability of users to generate images of people in bikinis, underwear or similar attire in jurisdictions where such actions violate local laws.
Backlash over Grok's 'Spicy Mode'
Pressure on X and its AI subsidiary xAI intensified after Grok's so called Spicy Mode enabled users to generate sexualised deepfake images using basic commands such as asking the tool to remove clothing or alter appearances. Critics warned that the feature was being exploited to create non consensual and explicit content involving real individuals, including minors.
The controversy sparked concern among regulators and child protection agencies worldwide, with calls for immediate intervention to curb misuse of generative AI tools.
Legal scrutiny intensifies in the United States
The announcement from X came just hours after California's attorney general launched an investigation into xAI, the company behind Grok. The probe focuses on the creation of "non-consensual, sexually explicit material" and whether the platform violated state laws by allowing such content to be generated and shared.
The investigation adds to growing legal challenges facing AI developers as governments examine the ethical and legal boundaries of artificial intelligence technologies.
Countries and regulators step in worldwide
Several countries have already taken action against Grok. Indonesia became the first nation to block access to the chatbot entirely, with Malaysia following shortly after. Indian authorities said X removed thousands of posts and hundreds of user accounts after complaints related to inappropriate content.
In the United Kingdom, media regulator Ofcom confirmed it has opened an investigation into whether X failed to comply with national laws governing sexual imagery. In France, commissioner for children Sarah El Hairy said she had referred Grok generated images to French prosecutors, the Arcom media regulator and the European Union for further action.
As scrutiny mounts across multiple regions, X now faces growing pressure to demonstrate that its new safeguards are effective in preventing further misuse of AI generated images.
